Orlando Weekly | Erin Sullivan Florida Pawnbrokers Act ![]() Orlando Weekly's Erin Sullivan talks about a teacher who was shot then burglarized and the difficulty in retrieving her property back from the pawn shops. According to Jack Gee, former president of the Fort Lauderdale law enforcement property recovery unit, in 1996, lobbyists for the pawnbrokers industry convinced the state legislature that Florida needed the Florida Pawnbrokers Act. The law put the burden on crime victims, not pawn shops to pay the price for dealing in stolen property. |
