FHP Deploys Extra Troopers for the Holiday

If you're among the hordes of Floridians hitting the roads for the Thanksgiving holiday, the Florida Highway Patrol is issuing you a warning. They will be watching you. The patrol is pulling out all the stops to beef up staff for the long holiday weekend. Officers who normally perform administrative duties will trade their desks for patrol cars and join other troopers on Florida's roads watching for careless and impaired drivers. The patrol says there will be a zero tolerance for drunk driving, speeding and overly aggressive driving. FHP officials say, in recent years, the Thanksgiving holiday has been the state's deadliest. There were 52 highway deaths during last year's five-day Thanksgiving weekend. That's more fatalities than during any other holiday in 2008.
