SeaWorld to Keep Whale That Killed Trainer

February 25, 2010 -- SeaWorld Orlando plans to keep a killer whale that killed one of its trainers on Wednesday, but the park may change the way trainers interact with him. Officials are still trying to figure out what caused the animal to turn on the employee.

The Orange County medical examiner says 40-year-old Dawn Brancheau died from multiple injuries and drowning after a whale apparently grabbed her by the hair and pulled her into the water.  SeaWorld says trainers will continue to interact with the whale and that he won’t be isolated from other whales in the park.  The SeaWorld parks in Orlando and San Diego have suspended their killer whale shows for now.  The park’s San Antonio location is opening for the season on Saturday and has not decided whether to go ahead with its whale show.
