McCollum Promises Suit to Stop Health Care Bill

Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum says he intends to file suit in the Northern District of Florida after President Obama signs the healthcare bill into law. McCollum made the announcement Monday at his office in Orlando.

The Attorney General says the new health care bill infringes on states’ rights that are protected in the U.S. Constitution. He also says it will force states to change their healthcare systems and spend billions of dollars they can’t afford.
McCollum admits he’ll have to deal with that balancing act if he wins the governor’s race over Democrat Alex Sink later this year – but he says the lawsuit is not about politics.
McCollum says the suit will also challenge the constitutionality of requiring Americans to buy health insurance or pay a penalty.
Other states joining the suit include South Carolina, Nebraska, North and South Dakota, Texas, Alabama, Pennsylvania, and Washington State, and Michigan.
