Central Florida Mayors Discuss High Speed Rail Stops

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio and Lakeland Mayor Gow Fields met in Lakeland today to discuss the next steps for the high-speed rail line that's planned to run between Orlando and Tampa.

Political and business leaders met with representatives from the Florida Department of Transportation to discuss the first phase of the rail project this morning.
One of the issues on the agenda was the issue of where the train will stop.
The first phase of the 84-mile line is planned to run between Orlando International Airport and downtown Tampa with stops at Walt Disney World, the Orange County Convention Center and one, as yet undetermined, stop near Lakeland.
In January, President Obama announced one-and-a-quarter billion dollars in federal funding for the project.
The gathering of mayors in Lakeland today is the first of three sessions.  Meetings are also planned for Orlando and Tampa later in the spring.
