Gov. Crist to Run as an Independent

04/30/10 - Gov. Charlie Crist announced Thursday that he will run for Florida's open U.S. Senate seat without party affiliation. Gov. Crist made the announcement at a campaign rally in St. Petersburg, his hometown

Recent polls have shown Crist slipping in the polls against his Republican opponent former state House Speaker Marco Rubio.
Recent polls also indicate that Crist would have a better chance in the general election if he runs as an independent in a three-way race against Rubio and Democratic Congressman Kendrick Meek.
90.7’s Tom Parkinson spoke with Aubrey Jewett, Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Central Florida, and asked if this is a smart political move for Governor Crist.
