Agency for Workforce Innovation Releases New Jobless Numbers - Florida Unemployment Up to 11.5%

August 20, 2010 -- The number of unemployed people in Central Florida has risen by more than 8,000 over the past year. That brings the total number of jobless in the Orlando metro region to more than 222,000. That represents more than a million Floridians out of work.

The Orlando metropolitan region’s number was slightly higher at 11.7%.
All 6 counties in the Central Florida metro region saw unemployment numbers in the double digits. Osceola County had the highest rate at 12.4%.

Seminole County’s rate was the lowest at just over 11%. The jobless rate in the metro region has roughly doubled since July of 2008.

The state employment agency predicts that unemployment will eventually go back to that level, about 6%, but not until at least 2016.

Florida’s jobless numbers follow the national figures, released Thursday, which are at the highest level in 9 months.
