Contests Set for Grayson, Kosmas Congressional Races

August 25 - Former Republican State Senator Daniel Webster has won the right to take on Democratic Congressman Alan Grayson in November. His decisive primary win was in contrast to the close race that gave State Representative Sandy Adams the GOP nomination for the seat now held by Democrat Suzanne Kosmas.

Daniel Webster beat out six other Republicans for the nomination for Alan Grayson’s District 8 Congressional seat.  He got 40 percent of the vote.  The second place finisher, attorney Todd Long, got just 23 percent.

Webster says name recognition from his years in the state legislature helped put him over the top.

He says he plans to focus on the economy in his general election fight against first-term Congressman Grayson.

“The unemployment since a lot of these people in the current Congress took office is up exponentially, and the economy’s in the tank,” he said, “Do you want someone who’s balanced 28 budgets in a row in Tallahassee, or do you want someone who doesn’t care about a balanced budget?”

Webster initially announced he would not run for the District Eight seat but he says he changed his mind when some of his family members overcame their reservations about the campaign.

In the Republican primary for first-term Democrat Suzanne Kosmas’s District 24 Congressional seat, only three points separated the top three finishers.  State Representative Sandy Adams won the nomination with 30% of the vote; former Winter Park Commissioner Karen Diebel got 29%; and former Ruth’s Chris CEO Craig Miller has 28%.
