Orlando Magic Season Begins in New Arena

October 28, 2010 | WMFE - This is the day Orlando basketball fans have been eagerly awaiting. The Orlando Magic will begin the regular season tonight in their new home: the $480 million dollar Amway Center in downtown Orlando.

The Magic will host their Southeast Division rivals, the Washington Wizards, in the season opener. Tip off follows an opening night ceremony featuring Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, NBA Commissioner David Stern and the Magic’s star center Dwight Howard.
The Amway Center is nearly three times the size of the old Amway Arena where the team has played since 1989.  The facility features multiple bars, restaurants, shops and cafes. The 42 foot video scoreboard at center court is the largest in the NBA.
Tonight’s game is sold out but fans can watch on the huge high-definition video screen on the side of the new building.
