February 18, 2011 | WMFE - Nemours Children's Hospital in Orlando held an open house for its preview center yesterday. The public can now view replicas of exam rooms, including those in the Emergency Department and the Intensive Care Unit.

The new exam rooms are more spacious than the standard hospital room and are equipped with state-of-the-art technology, like LED lighting, large-screen interactive TVs and fast wireless Internet.

Despite initial resistance from state health planners, construction for Nemours Children’s Hospital began in June 2009. The project is expected to cost around $380 million.

Hospital CEO Roger Oxendale said Nemours will provide more “higher-end care” in the community.

"The level of professionals we expect to be able to attract in providing the care will bring techniques and procedures that currently are not available here," Oxendale said.

Nemours will be Orlando’s third children’s hospital. It’s scheduled to open in the fall of next year.
