Governor Rick Scott Testifies Before U.S. House Subcommittee

April 14, 2011 | WMFE - Governor Rick Scott testified before a Congressional Subcommittee this morning about the dangers of prescription drug abuse.

Governor Scott also spoke about efforts in Florida to create a prescription drug database, which the Governor until recently had actually fought to stop from being implemented.

Scott testified before the US House Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade alongside Kentucky’s governor.

Governor Scott highlighted efforts to increase regulations on powerful medications and create a prescription drug abuse “strike force” .  As recently as last week Governor Scott was still raising concerns about the drug database, but the program which was created by the legislature in 2009, now has the support of the Governor.

State officials say the prescription drug database could be launched as soon as August.
