Analyst Says Election Changes Will Disenfranchise Voters

May 6, 2011 | WMFE - The Florida Legislature passed a sweeping overhaul of the state's election laws Thursday. The changes affect everything from early voting to third-party voter registration drives.

The vote in both chambers was mostly along party lines with most Republicans favoring the changes and most Democrats opposed.
The bill’s supporters say the reforms are needed to clamp down on voter fraud. 

But Democrats and some election law advocacy groups say the measure restricts access to the polls, especially for people who usually vote Democratic. 
One of those advocacy groups is the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University's School of Law. The Brennan Center tracks election laws across the country.
