Hank Fishkind May 31 - Renting Might Be a Better Option for Some

May 31, 2011 | WMFE - The housing market in central Florida seems to be slowly recovering but average home prices are still very low and foreclosures continue to be a major factor. We discussed some of those trends last week with economic analyst Hank Fishkind. This week, 90.7's Tom Parkinson asked Dr. Fishkind about the rental housing market.

Fishkind says that monthly rents in the Orlando area are now roughly equivalent to a mortgage payment. With some homes continuing to drop in value, he says it might be better for some people to rent for now and invest whatever they may have saved for a down payment in the stock market.
