Mica: Sunrail Approval Good

July 1, 2011 | WMFE - Central Florida's SunRail commuter train got official approval from Governor Rick Scott today. Winter Park Republican Congressman John Mica has been a longtime champion of the 1.2 billion dollar project - he says the Governor made the right decision. "I think the governor did what a smart business person does. Look at the bottom line and the bottom line is jobs, it's the economy, it's a cost effective transportation system for the future."

Governor Scott sent  the Florida Transportation Secretary to Central Florida earlier this
week to remind local governments that they could have to cover some of Sunrail’s
operating costs.

The train is expected to be running by early 2014.

When asked about whether he'll approve funding for Scott's plan to dredge the Port of Miami, Mica said "We'll support the Governor in other transportation efforts".

Back in April Mica hinted that if Scott did not approve Sunrail, partial funding for the dredging project could be held up in the US House Transportation Committee, which the Congressman chairs.
