Senator Bill Nelson Pulls Ahead of Opponents in Fundraising

July 12, 2011 | WMFE - Democratic Senator Bill Nelson's campaign office has released reports saying it raised nearly $2 million for Nelson's re-election bid. The fundraising records are for the fiscal quarter that ended on June 30th.

The $1.85 million total is nearly double the amount raised last quarter by any of the Republicans hoping to challenge him. In all, Nelson has more than $6 million in the bank for next year's election.

Among Republicans, former Senator George LeMieux raised $950,000 dollars last quarter, while Senate President Mike Haridopolos raised $900,000. Former Representative Adam Hasner raised $560,000 dollars.

Retired Army Colonel Mike McCalister hasn't yet announced his fundraising totals. Former Ruth's Chris CEO Craig Miller just entered the race this month.

Nelson’s campaign said it received donations from 3,000 individual contributors during the quarter.
