Orlando Area Jobless Numbers Up for June

July 22, 2011 | WMFE - Unemployment in the Orlando Metropolitan Area is up by one half of a percentage point for the month of June. The statewide jobless rate also rose and is still above the national average.

 

The unemployment rate in the Orlando Metropolitan Region inched up to 10.4 % in June from 9.9% the previous month.

The regional employment board, Workforce Central Florida, released the numbers Friday morning.

The agency considers 4 counties: Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Lake as the Orlando Metropolitan Statistical Area

Osceola had highest unemployment rate in the metro area at 11.1%.

Seminole’s rate was up by a fraction of a percent but is still the lowest in the Orlando area at 9.9%.


The statewide, non-seasonally adjusted, rate was 11.1%. That’s up from 10.5% in May and higher than the national average of 9.2%.

Workforce Central Florida says there are some jobs available. They say registered nurses, retail sales associates and telemarketers are still in demand.
