Head of Associated Industries of Florida Resigns

August 11, 2011 | WMFE - The president and CEO of an influential Florida business group is resigning. Barney Bishop said Wednesday that he will give up the leadership of Associated Industries of Florida at the end of this year.

Associated Industries of Florida is a Tallahassee-based voluntary organization that represents the interests of many businesses from across the state. The AIF’s activities include lobbying lawmakers and government officials, as well as political activism.

In a statement yesterday announcing his resignation, Bishop said he’ll continue working with the group as a consultant on January 1, 2012.

His last day as president and CEO is December 31, 2011.

Bishop said he's achieved a goal of rebuilding AIF’s membership, and is leaving to pursue “other passions.” He first joined the organization in 2003, and became president and CEO in 2005.

The AIF hedged its bets in last year's gubernatorial election by endorsing now-Governor Rick Scott as well as his Republican primary opponent, Bill McCollum.
