The agenda of “P5” is crammed with big names from the Republican Party. There’s a presidential debate that will air on FOX News, and a forum with the candidates for Florida’s US Senate seat. Speakers like Governor Rick Scott, Attorney General Pam Bondi and conservative activist Andrew Breitbart are featured.

There’s also a rally led by the conservative Faith and Freedom Coalition. Florida Democratic Party Chair Rod Smith says that’s where the GOP begins to alienate some Florida voters.

“It’s almost a track meet to the right,” Smith says. “I don’t believe Florida is a right-wing state. Never have. I don’t believe it’s a left-wing state. Never have. I believe it’s a center of the road state in terms of where the politics of this state [have] been and remains. And I just think if they continue to run hard to the right, it becomes hard to re-center themselves in a general election.”

Republicans will learn the opinion of some Florida voters firsthand, at the presidential straw poll that marks the end of the week’s events.
