Oct. 14, 2011 | WMFE - Governor Rick Scott made national headlines this week when he called on the state university system to put more emphasis on core subject areas such as science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Scott says too many Florida students are graduating with degrees that won't prepare them for the current job market and, he says, Florida needs more engineers but does not need any more anthropologists.

Many Floridians disagree with that particular sentiment. Among them is Dr. Robert Moore, Professor of Anthropology at Rollins College in Winter Park. He says anthropologists are doing important work in Florida and he says, actually the state could use more anthropology majors.
90.7’s Tom Parkinson spoke with Dr. Moore and asked him what the field of Anthropology teaches that he feels is important for other Floridians.
