President Obama Holds Fundraisers in Orlando

October 10, 2011 | WMFE - President Barack Obama is coming to Orlando Tuesday for two private fundraisers. Political strategists say campaigning early and often in Florida is a smart move for Mr. Obama as he works to build support for his 2012 re-election bid and his new jobs bill.

President Obama is making two stops in Orlando Tuesday – one at the Sheraton Hotel downtown and another at the home of attorney John Morgan. Both are closed to the public.

Political analyst and former Democratic state House Representative Dick Batchelor says the president’s visit is an important investment in both future voter support and immediate campaign cash.

“He’s coming here to raise money," Batchelor says. "I would guess – I don’t know this, but I would surmise that John Morgan probably had to commit to raise $500,000, at least. He’ll be back probably in November for another half-million-dollar fundraiser. So he’s coming here because this is where the money is.”

Batchelor says Florida’s I-4 corridor is a political bellwether for America’s largest swing state, and a must-win for the president.
