Seminole County Says No to Most New Charter Schools

Oct. 21, 2011 | WMFE - Charter schools are emerging as a popular alternative to public schools in Florida.
The charters are publicly funded but are operated by private companies.
Governor Rick Scott has been a vocal advocate for expanding charter schools across the state but the school's private operators are receiving a mixed reception in Florida school districts. Some are rolling out the red carpet and others saying "No Thanks" to most charter school proposals.
John O’Connor of the State Impact Florida education reporting project looked into the Seminole County District’s position on new charter schools. 90.7’s Tom Parkinson asked him why the Seminole County board rejected three recent applications for new charter schools.
