Florida Senate President Mike Haridopolos of Melbourne made headlines Thursday when he suggested postponing tackling the state’s budget until after January’s scheduled legislative session.

This morning in an interview with WMFE News, Governor Rick Scott says he’d prefer to avoid that situation, but he's open to suggestions.

Haridopolos says new revenue figures will be available in the spring, which is traditionally when the legislature meets.

This year, the session's start date is moved up to January, as lawmakers work on redistricting state and congressional districts.

Florida is facing a $1.6 billion budget shortfall this year.
