Tuesday is Deadline for Primary Voter Registration

January 2, 2012 | WMFE - If you want to vote in Florida's Republican presidential primary, Tuesday is the last day to register. The Florida primary has been bumped up to Tuesday, January 31st, making Florida the fifth state in the nation heading to the polls.

A Presidential Primary Preference committee made up of nine current and former lawmakers was formed in September to choose the date, which is several months earlier than Florida has traditionally held primaries.

Committee members say they pushed up Florida’s primary date so the state could have more influence over the eventual nominee.

If you want to help influence this choice, your local Supervisor of Elections Office must have your new or updated voter registration information no later than Tuesday.

Florida is a “closed primary” state. That means Floridians can only vote in their own party’s primary – this time around, only registered Republicans can cast ballots for the Republican presidential primary.
