Sanford’s city manager announced work on a new agency to handle complaints about police a day after hundreds of protesters gathered at a city commission meeting.

Acting Sanford Police Chief Darren Scott says his goal is to restore trust in the police department…but not everyone may like how he does it.

“We are working to provide unity and transparency of the actions of this department," says Scott. "In doing so, we will not compromise the integrity of any investigation to bend to the will of the media or the public.”

Trayvon Martin’s parents spent Tuesday on Capitol Hill at a hearing on racial profiling and Florida’s “stand your ground” law. Martin’s shooter, 28-year-old neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman, is claiming self-defense under that law.
