Ads in Seminole Public Schools

The superintendent of Seminole County public schools, Bill Vogel, says putting advertisements in schools is just one way the district is trying to fill a budget gap.

The school board voted this week to hire the firm Education Funding Partners to attract national advertisers to the schools.

Dr. Vogel said the board has already cut staff and transportation to try and make up for a 16 million dollar budget deficit.

“In addition we had to look at every other area for additional cost cutting," he said.

"We’re still in that deficit situation. It looks like we’ll have to use some of our reserve balance to make it through this upcoming year.”

Dr. Vogel said Seminole High Schools already have local ads in their sports grounds.

He said new ad revenue will help, but it won’t be enough- the county will have to look at other options in the future like increases in property taxes.
