Representatives of the commercial spaceflight company Sierra Nevada Space Systems were in Cocoa Friday to announce they will be moving work on their orbital crew vehicle to Florida.

Mark Sirangelo, the Corporate Vice President of the company, said Sierra Nevada formally put in an application to expand its facilities in Florida.

"It's the starting point for the next phase of our development, which is getting ready for actual flights," said Sirangelo.

Sirangelo said the company is working with NASA to eventually fly astronauts and critical cargo to the International Space Station.

Sierra Nevada's reusable spacecraft called the Dream Chaser, looks like a smaller version of the  space shuttle. It will be blasted into orbit on a United Launch Alliance rocket and return to earth and land like the shuttle.

The endeavor is expected to create hundreds of jobs on the Space Coast.
