Zimmerman Formally Arraigned

The neighborhood watchman who shot and killed teenager Trayvon Martin has officially entered a not guilty plea to the charge of second degree murder. George Zimmerman's arraignment took less than a minute.

Zimmerman, who claims he acted in self defense in the February shooting, had already entered a plea in writing.

He is currently out on bail, and his appearance in the Seminole County Court tuesday afternoon was waived. Neither his attorney Mark O’Mara nor the prosecutor Bernie De La Rionda were in court for the short hearing.

O’Mara has filed a motion to continue the case and waived Zimmerman’s right to a speedy trial. In the motion he said more time is needed to prepare.

The next court date in the case has been set for August 8th.
