George Zimmerman Bond Ruling Expected Thursday

July 4, 2012 | WMFE - A Seminole County judge says he'll likely issue a ruling Thursday on whether to grant George Zimmerman bond a second time. Judge Kenneth Lester says he had to take time to review evidence from Friday's hearing before making the decision.

Lester is the same judge who granted Zimmerman’s bond in April, then revoked it in June. Lester sent Zimmerman back to jail because he agreed with prosecutors that Zimmerman and his wife Shellie misled the court about their finances at that first hearing.

Shellie Zimmerman has since been charged with perjury for telling the court the couple was strapped for cash, failing to mention nearly $200,000 her husband received in online donations.

At Friday’s second bond hearing, defense attorney Mark O’Mara admitted that his client made a mistake, but said that he’s been cooperative with law enforcement in other ways, even after he was charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in February.

O’Mara also introduced evidence that he says strengthens Zimmerman’s claim of self-defense. He asked that Zimmerman be granted the same bond amount as before - $150,000.

The prosecution wants Zimmerman to remain in jail until trial.
