Champion Family Sues FAMU

The family of Drum Major Robert Champion filed a law suit against Florida A and M university Wednesday in Orlando.

Speaking outside the Orange County court, Champion’s mother Pam Champion says she wants to ensure those responsible for her son’s death are held accountable.

“As I’ve always said, whether you were directly or indirectly part of it, you should be held accountable. Ensure that it doesn’t happen again.”

The suit comes on the same day FAMU president James Ammons resigned in Tallahassee as the fallout from the hazing scandal continues.

Robert Champion died after an alleged beating at the hands of other band members inside a FAMU band bus following the Florida Classic football game in Orlando last fall.

Eleven band members face felony hazing charges over the death.
