July 25, 2012 | WMFE - A judge has denied bond to a former Florida A&M University band member charged in the Orlando hazing death of drum major Robert Champion.

Circuit Judge Frank Sheffield rejected the request Wednesday from Caleb Jackson in Tallahassee.

Jackson has been jailed on a charge of violating probation for a prior battery conviction resulting from a fight at Tallahassee Community College since his arrest on the hazing charge three months ago.

Defense lawyer Chuck Hobbs said Jackson is the only one of the thirteen defendants in the hazing case not free on bond. He is set for trial in October.

Champion died last November after being beaten with drum sticks and mallets and fists aboard a bus in Orlando, after the FAMU Marching 100 band had performed at the Florida Classic football game.
