NCAA Imposes New Sanctions on UCF Athletics Programs  July 31, 2012 | WMFE - The NCAA has added a host of sanctions to the penalties that the University of Central Florida imposed on itself, after major recruiting violations were uncovered in its men's basketball and football programs last year. The NCAA has imposed a one-year postseason ban for both programs, in addition to levying a $50,000, reducing the programs’ scholarships, vacating some basketball victories, and other sanctions. The punishments stem from a 2011 investigation that found the programs were inappropriately involved with sports agents and that they made cash payments to recruits. Former athletics director Keith Tribble and assistant football coach David Kelly were cited for unethical conduct by the NCAA and resigned. Basketball coach Donnie Jones served a three-game suspension. |
