Governor Rick Scott Brings Healthcare Debate to Orlando

Florida Governor Rick Scott
Florida Governor Rick Scott

Governor Scott will be addressing Florida Healthcare Association's annual conference in Orlando this afternoon. Scott has been a vocal opponent of the Affordable Care act, and has said he is more focused on creating jobs so Floridians can afford to pay for their own insurance.

Scott says this would allow Florida to avoid expanding Medicaid.  He says creating an insurance marketplace and expanding Medicaid would hamper efforts to improve education programs due to escalating costs.

Scott says the Affordable Care Act won’t reduce the cost of healthcare.

Meanwhile a coalition of groups including Florida Watch Action and SEIU are demanding the expansion of Medicaid.

They are organizing their own press conference outside of the Florida Healthcare Association’s conference after the Governor speaks.
