"Spawn of Isaac" Could Impact Florida  September 5, 2012 | WMFE - A remnant of Hurricane Isaac has drawn back into the Gulf of Mexico and is hovering between the coasts of Louisiana and the Florida Panhandle. Meteorologists say the low-pressure system could strengthen, become a named storm, and possibly threaten Central Florida...again. Forecasters are calling the tropical disturbance the “spawn of Isaac.” The storm spun off and returned to the northern Gulf after traveling through the Midwest as part of Isaac. The National Hurricane Center gives the low-pressure system a 20 percent chance of becoming a tropical depression over the next two days. If it does develop, meteorologists say it probably would get a new name, and is likely to stay in the Gulf slowly moving south until the weekend. Friday or Saturday, a cold front should shunt the storm toward Florida. Forecast models show the system is expected to move over the state somewhere between the Panhandle and Central Florida, including the Orlando metro area. |
