Intersection Segment | Dick and Lou Assess Amendments on November Ballot

October 03, 2012 | WMFE - Eleven state constitutional amendments are on the November ballot. This week on Intersection 90.7's Mark Simpson talked with 90.7 political commentators Dick Batchelor and Lou Frey about some of them. Batchelor, a Democrat, is a former state House representative. Frey, a Republican, is a former congressman. Batchelor began the conversation by discussing Amendment 1. The amendment would prohibit the federal government from requiring health insurance of each individual. But because President Barack Obama's Affordable Health Care Act now is law, some critics say Amendment 1 is unconstitutional because it calls for state laws to trump federal ones.
