Zimmerman's Lawyers: State's Approach to Discovery Evidence Causing "Frustration and Delay"

October 15, 2012 | WMFE- Attorneys for former neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman are asking for additional judicial oversight in the discovery process as they gather evidence for his defense. In court documents filed Monday a member of Zimmerman's legal team says the prosecution is slowing procedure down.

The motion filed by defense attorney Donald West says the state provided some of the discovery evidence  late, while some other requests were ignored or denied without explanation.

That  evidence provided months late includes a witness sketch which shows 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was on top of Zimmerman during their deadly scuffle.

Defense attorneys want monthly hearings and a senior judge appointed to manage a discovery plan.

Meanwhile deposition hearings of Sanford police and fire rescue officers are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.

Trayvon Martin’s parents have also launched a new website to draw attention to stand your ground laws in effect in many states. Zimmerman claims he acted in self defense under Florida's stand your ground law.
