October 22, 2012 | WMFE- Nemours Children's hospital at Orlando's medical city opened its doors to patients for the first time Monday. Medical city developers anticipate the $397 million hospital will help generate thousands of jobs over the next five years.

The state of the art children’s hospital employs 850 staff- nearly half of about two thousand people now working in facilities across medical city.

Lake Nona Property Holdings president Jim Zboril, who spoke at a workshop for city commissioners Monday, says Nemours is one of the main anchor tenants which are vital to the medical city economy.

“Not to minimize the great things that are happening at Burnham and UCF, those are great institutions, they’ve done a lot, they’ve brought in the jobs, they’ve performed as they said they would," says Zboril.

"But some of the big job numbers come from Nemours, and more over come from the VA”

The VA hospital is behind schedule, but when it opens in late 2013, about 5,000 people will be employed at medical city.

Jim Zboril says with the multiplier effect of those jobs, he anticipates medical city could generate about 16,000 jobs over the next 5 years.
