Thousands of Central Floridians Cast Early Votes

November 1, 2012 | WMFE - The official Election Day is next Tuesday but state elections officials say more than two-and-a -half million Florida voters have already cast ballots using either absentee ballots or early voting.

Officials in Tallahassee say, as of Wednesday afternoon, more than a million Floridians have cast early votes and more than one-and-a-half million have sent in absentee ballots.

Elections officials throughout central Florida say more than 380,000 citizens have already voted in Orange, Brevard, Seminole, Osceola and Volusia counties. That’s about a quarter of eligible voters.

Voters at some of the more popular early voting sites are reporting long lines and waits of an hour or more while others report smaller crowds and waits of only a few minutes at other sites.

Early voting continues through Saturday and officials say they expect lines to grow even longer heading into the final weekend before Election Day.
