New Harris Tech Center to Bring Hundreds of Jobs

November 28, 2012 | WMFE- Several hundred new jobs may be coming to the Space Coast. The Harris Corp. is building a new $100 million dollar technology center in Brevard County.

Governor Rick Scott joined Harris officials for a ground breaking ceremony Tuesday in Palm Bay.

Harris is an international producer of telecommunications equipment specializing in wireless voice, data and video networks for military and industrial applications.

Company officials say the new facility represents a commitment by the Florida-based firm to be a long term presence in the region.

The project will employ several hundred construction workers and house about 1,400 workers when its finished including about 100 new positions.

Area leaders call the new tech center a welcome boost for the Space Coast region’s economy which has been suffering since NASA ended the space shuttle program last year.

The new center is projected to open in 2014
