Gov. Scott Leads 200 Member Delegation to Colombia  December 3, 2012 | WMFE - Governor Rick Scott and an entourage of nearly 200 people left Florida over the weekend for a trade mission to Colombia. The members of the delegation include former Gov. Bob Martinez, Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn, several state cabinet members and representatives from 116 Florida companies.
The delegation will meet with Colombian commerce, industry and tourism officials. Governor Scott has meetings scheduled with Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos and U.S. Ambassador P. Michael McKinley. Gov. Scott says he hopes to generate new contacts and expand relationships with existing business partners. Colombia is the state’s second largest trading partner with an estimated nine billion dollars worth of goods exchanged between the two countries annually. Florida buys gold, oil, clothing, flowers and other goods from Colombia. Florida businesses sell electronics, auto parts, airplanes and other aerospace technology to Colombia, the fifth largest economy in Latin America Gov. Scott says he wants to expand and strengthen relationships there ahead of the upcoming expansion of the Panama Canal.
