All Aboard Florida Expects 3.29 Million Riders Annually by 2018

December 26, 2012 | WMFE- The private company that wants to develop a passenger rail service from Orlando to Miami says it expects more than 3 million riders to use the service annually by 2018. All Aboard Florida say with that ridership the service could generate about $145 million in fares annually.

All Aboard Florida was given the green light by the Florida Department of Transportation last week to start lease negotiations for rights of way along the 528 expressway.

The final 35 miles of the proposed route would follow the 528 from Cocoa to Orlando International Airport.

According to the proposal submitted to the Florida Department of Transportation, the estimated cost of the project is about $1.5 billion- half a billion dollars more than an earlier estimate.

All Aboard Florida LLC says constructing the rail line will create 18 thousand jobs and generate $4 billion in economic benefit.

About 500 permanent jobs would be created by the rail service.
