Most of Central Florida's Delegation Votes "No" on Fiscal Deal  January 2, 2013 | WMFE - The US House of Representatives reached a compromise late Tuesday night and passed a bill to avoid the fiscal cliff. The US Senate passed its bill in the early morning hours Tuesday. The deal allows tax cuts to expire for people making less than $450,000 a year. It also extends benefits for about two million unemployed workers and will delay, until March 1st, automatic cuts in defense spending that had been set to take effect today.
All of central Florida’s Republican Congress members voted against the bill including Representatives John Mica, Sandy Adams, Bill Posey, Rich Nugent and Daniel Webster. The region’s only Democratic House member, Congresswoman Corrine Brown, voted “Yes.” Republican Congressmen Bill Young of Pinellas County and Vern Buchanan from Sarasota crossed party lines to vote with all of Florida’s Democratic representatives in favor of the bill. In the Senate, Florida’s delegation split along party lines with Democratic Senator Bill Nelson voting “Yes.” Republican Senator Marco Rubio was one of only eight senators voting against the bill. Senator Rubio released a statement saying he couldn’t vote for a bill that, he said, would raise taxes on small businesses and inhibit job creation.
