Governor Rick Scott in Lake Mary to Announce 750 Verizon Jobs

Feb 13, 2013 | WMFE - Verizon Communications says it will bring hundreds of new jobs to Central Florida when it opens a finance and accounting center next year. Governor Rick Scott came to Lake Mary Wednesday to announce the opening of the center, which he touted as a sign of an improving economy.

Scott joined company and county officials to champion the arrival of Verizon’s new Lake Mary finance and accounting center. Three hundred professional and administrative jobs will be created when the $50 million International Parkway office opens late next year, with a total of 750 jobs by 2016.

Verizon spokeswoman Michelle Robinson said the Central Florida area was chosen in part due to its large population of finance and accounting graduates, along with its high quality of life.

“Seminole County, and specifically Lake Mary, emerged as the ideal location for Verizon. I share that to stress that Verizon didn’t choose Lake Mary randomly,” Robinson said at a Wednesday press conference. “Verizon chose Lake Mary as a result of a host of good and sound business reasons, including the fact that it’s a wonderful place to live and work and generally do business.”

The facility will centralize accounting, finance and other office operations - it is not designed to deal directly with customers, officials said. Overall, Florida offered Verizon about $6 million in tax incentives to bring the administrative hub into the state.

The jobs will pay an average salary of $55,000 per year.
