Seminole County Schools and Sheriff's Office Partner Up to "Focus on Safety"

February 27, 2013 | WMFE - A new safety program in Seminole County calls for ten new school resource deputies to come teach at 22 public elementary schools.

The deputies will cover topics like: gang and violence awareness, substance abuse, bullying and internet safety.

Schools in Altamonte, Oviedo and Sanford will not participate because they already teach the ‘Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE)’ Program.

The $700,000 cost for the program will be split between the Sherriff’s Office and the School District. Although funding hasn’t been approved yet, Seminole School Safety Coordinator Bob Devecchio says they are looking to make a decision next month.
