Orange County Woman Charged with $3 Million Medicaid Fraud  March 27, 2013 | An Orange County woman has been arrested and charged with defrauding Medicaid of $3 million dollars. At a press conference in Orlando Wednesday afternoon, Attorney General Pam Bondi said the money was used to support a lavish lifestyle. [Image: cars seized by law enforcement from Janie Vettini] The website for Janie Vittini’s company- called Improving Together Inc. - says it aims to provide mental health case management for adults and children. But investigators say Vittini was the ringleader of a scheme which between 2012 and 2013 billed Medicaid for more than $3 million dollars in services that were never provided. Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi said Vittini spent the money on luxury items including jewelry, cars, travel and $175 thousand dollars of Louis Vuitton products. “I can tell you I’ve never seen that much, and I’ve been in the store, so she must have done a tremendous amount of shopping," she said. "She also, as we said, went on a cruise with other individuals- many individuals. She was living a lavish lifestyle at the expense of taxpayers,” Bondi said. To obtain Medicaid recipient numbers, Vittini allegedly used gift cards to entice Medicaid recipients to complete applications for services. She faces charges of Medicaid fraud, racketeering and identity theft. |
