MCO Switches to Electronic I-94 Form

May 1, 2013 | WMFE - International visitors flying into Orlando no longer have to fill out a paper I-94 arrival form. An electronic version of the form is expected to save time and cut down on paperwork.

On Tuesday, Orlando International Airport became the first airport in the US to automate the I-94.

Ron Lewis, the airport’s deputy executive director of operations, says Orlando’s international passenger count in 2012 was 3.7 million - and it’s growing.

He says eliminating the paper form will speed up the arrival process.

“With our destination with a lot of kids and parents and all, trying to keep them in tow after being on an airplane and then maybe being stuck for some additional time going through the process can be challenging for them,” says Lewis.

The new system shaves about 25 seconds off the processing time for each traveler.

Lewis says that makes a big difference for flights of over 300 passengers.

Instead of collecting the I-94 form, customs officers will scan travelers passports, gathering data already collected by the airlines from the ticket reservation.

Other airports rolling out the automated system this week include Las Vegas, Chicago O’Hare and Miami International.
