Mica, Grayson Tout Simulation Biz in Visit to Lockheed Martin

May 6, 2013 | WMFE - Florida Congressmen John Mica and Alan Grayson toured Lockheed Martin's simulation laboratory in Orlando on Monday. They learned about a new training system for army commanders. The $146 million contract to develop the system comes even as sequestration puts pressure on military spending.

Grayson and Mica tried out a flight simulator as part of their tour.

They also learned about JLCCTC. That's an acronym for a training system that allows commanders and their staffs to simulate large-scale troop movements, so they can test strategies and learn from the outcomes.

Mica said sequestration has pressured military spending, but he is encouraged by Lockheed Martin's new contract with the Army.  

"There are others, actually close to a half-billion dollars in contracts in just the last few months, and we expect more to follow."

Orlando is home to more than 100 simulation and training companies, making the city a national center in the industry. Grayson said these high-tech jobs are an important part of diversifying Central Florida's economy.
