George Zimmerman Wants Jury Sequestered, Except for Crime Scene Trip

May 10th, 2013 | WMFE- The neighborhood watch volunteer charged with fatally shooting 17-year-old Trayvon Martin has asked for the jury at his murder trial to be sequestered, and for jurors to be able to inspect the crime scene. George Zimmerman's defense team filed the requests with the Seminole County court Thursday.

Zimmerman’s attorney Mark O’Mara is asking that jurors be kept in isolation during the trial, and that their names and other personal information remain confidential. He cited the amount of attention the case has received.

In another motion filed yesterday, O'Mara requests that jurors be allowed to inspect the gated community in Sanford where Zimmerman fatally shot Martin during a confrontation last year. O'Mara says seeing the neighborhood firsthand will allow jurors to determine the reliability of witnesses.

Zimmerman is charged with second-degree murder. He has pleaded not guilty, claiming self-defense. His trial is scheduled to start next month.
