Protesters Rally Against Possible Sentinel Sale to Koch Brothers

May 16, 2013 | WMFE - Demonstrators gathered outside the Orlando Sentinel Thursday to protest the newspaper's possible sale to the Koch brothers.

The conservative billionaires are among those considering buying the Sentinel and seven other newspapers owned by Tribune.

Amy Ritter is executive director of Florida Watch Action, which organized the protest.

"We need to maintain true unbiased journalism whether it's in paper or online. We cannot have our newspapers or our media, our news being bought out by right-wing political parties or any political party for that matter."

Tribune also owns the Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune and Sun-Sentinel in Fort Lauderdale. The company emerged from bankruptcy in December.

Earlier this week Tribune Chief Executive Officer Peter Liguori sent a memo to employees saying the company is considering many options, including retaining the newspapers.
