Health Care Employer Mandate Delay Welcomed By Some

The Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association said it's thankful the Obama Administration is delaying the Affordable Care Act's employer mandate until 2015.

F-R-L-A President and CEO Carol Dover said the statewide trade association is concerned about the cost of the mandate, and that large numbers within the industry will opt out and take a penalty instead. “And if that’s the case, it certainly doesn’t get us to where the administration intended to go, and that was to get everybody on health care,” she said.

The hospitality industry is the state’s largest industry with over a million workers. The employer mandate requires businesses with 50 or more full time employees to provide health care coverage, or face a potential penalty of 2-thousand dollars per employee.
