Mark O’Mara says the trial cost the defense two to three hundred thousand dollars- much of that to pay for expert witnesses.

He told reporters in Orlando Tuesday he wants a judge to sign an order authorizing the state to cover those costs.

“I just think it’s patently unfair the state by overcharging a case they could not prove at trial gets to cost either Mr. Zimmerman or me or the donors a whole bunch of money and they’re not responsible for it,” he said.

O’Mara says that doesn’t include lawyer’s fees- which for him alone over 16 months add up to more than a million dollars.

George Zimmerman was acquitted of second degree murder by a jury last month for fatally shooting teenager Trayvon Martin in Sanford in 2012.

He says he fired in self defense.
